Tra le centinaia di siti della BBC voglio segnalare quello di questo canale radio, consigliatomi da Adam Atkinson, uno dei migliori esempi di inglese britannico parlato nonché fonte di intrattenimento e informazioni in una miriade di campi.
I programmi sono ascoltabili dal vivo e in differita online; la maggior parte di essi rimane sul sito per una settimana; alcuni programmi di informativa e scientifici sono archiviati più a lungo.
Per l’ascolto dello streaming online è necessario un lettore Real Player. In via sperimentale alcuni programmi sono scaricabili come podcast.
Among the hundreds of websites managed by the BBC I would like to mention this radio channel, suggested to me by Adam Atkinson, one of the best examples of spoken British English as well as source of entertainment and information in several areas of interest.
The programmes can be listened to online both live and as a recording; most remain available from the website for a week after transmission; some factual broadcasts are archived for a longer time.
A RealOne Player is necessary for listening to the online streaming, a few programmes are now experimentally downloadable as podcasts.

Un sito con diverse centinaia di attività di ascolto per ogni livello e con possibilità di scegliere tra diversi accenti.
Ogni settimana vengono proposte alcune attività di diverso genere: interviste con quiz collegati, giochi, mixer (dove 6 personaggi si esprimono su di un argomento), talking points, canzoni (scritte appositamente per il sito). L’archiviazione è fatta per numero, per tipo, per livello, per accento. Per quasi tutte le attività è possibile avere una trascrizione scritta.
Manca solo una descrizione o una dichiarazione di scopi del sito e alcune pagine sono un po’ lente a caricare.
A site with several hundreds listening activities for any level and with the possibility of choosing between different accents.
Each week there is a list of activities of various kinds: interviews with attached quiz, games, mixers (where 6 different characters express their opinion on a topic), talking points, songs (specially written for the website). Filing is by number, type, level, accent. It is possible to get a transcript for most activities.
The only thing missing is a general description of the site; some pages are rather slow to appear.

British Council – Learn English

Learn English è un portale del British Council che si collega a tutti i siti per insegnanti e studenti di inglese gestiti dal British Council.
La sezione più interessante è Learn English-Central, dove è possibile trovare attività di ogni genere: dal tema della settimana (nella pagina principale) a giochi e cartoni, esercizi e spiegazioni di grammatica, letture di tema scientifico e storico, attività di ascolto e molto altro…
L’unico “difetto” è che la moltitudine di possibilità di scelta crea un po’ di confusione.
Learn English is a portal which links to all the British Council’s websites for teachers and learners of English.
The most interesting section is Learn English-Central, where it is possible to find activities of all kinds: from the topic of the week a (linked to the main page) to games and cartoons, grammar exercises and explanations, reading activities on science and history, listening activities and much morte…
The only “defect” is that such a wide choice can create some confusion.

Science Friday: Making science radioactive.

Science Friday è un talk-show settimanale, trasmesso dal vivo sulle radio americane pubbliche.
Ogni settimana punta l’attenzione su temi correnti di carattere scientifico, cercando di stimolare una discussione equilibrata e colta sul tema in questione. Ospiti della veterana conduttrice e giornalista di scienze, Ira Flatow, sono esperti chiamati a discutere di quanto proposto e a rispondere alle domande degli ascoltatori.
L’ascolto dei programmi è possibile nel mondo attraverso streaming dal vivo (in formato Real Audio e Media Player) e attraverso podcast, cioè copie scaricabili ed ascoltabili con qualsiasi lettore di mp3 (servizio a cui è possibile iscriversi per ricevere gli aggiornamenti).
Gli archivi delle trasmissioni passate sono consultabili per categoria e per data. Ad un costo di $3.95 è anche possibile ricevere le trascrizioni delle trasmissioni. Attività per insegnanti di scienze sono proposte settimanalmente ed archiviate a seconda del tema della trasmissione.
Un ottimo sito per chi voglia tenersi al passo delle ultime scoperte scientifiche esercitando, nello stesso tempo, il proprio inglese scientifico orale.
Science Friday is a weekly science talk show, broadcast live over American public radio stations nationwide.
Each week, they focus on science topics that are in the news and try to bring an educated, balanced discussion to bear on the scientific issues at hand. Panels of expert guests join Science Friday’s host, Ira Flatow, a veteran science journalist, to discuss science – and to take questions from listeners.
Listening is possible both though live streaming (in Real Audio and Media Player format) as well as through podcasts, free downloadable copies that you can listen to with any mp3 player (you can subscribe to updates).
