An ambitious project that aims at publishing on the Internet an audio version of all that is in the free library of Project Gutemberg, where you can find written material in the public domain and whose website can be visited if you want to find a printed version of each audio book.
Whoever wants to volunteer can choose the chapter of a book or a short story and record themselves while reading. The audio files will be uploaded through Ourmedia.org and distributed by Librivox as podcasts.
The archive is already rather substantial and includes from Aesop’s fables to Jane Austen’s novels, from the Declaration of the Rights of Man to some works by Shakespeare.
The audio and readers’ quality is not always perfect; however, the initiative is laudable both for those who want to exercise their listening abilities and for those who, for a reason or another, have difficulty reading.
