Un interessante blog che vi aiuterà a migliorare lessico, pronuncia e abilità di ascolto. Ogni settimana vengono infatti caricati tre brevi podcast (di 2 o 3 minuti) parlati in un inglese molto chiaro. Potete scaricarli sul vostro computer, oppure abbonarvi ai feed usando iTunes o Yahoo, o semplicemente ascoltarli cliccando sul lettore Flash disponibile in fondo ad ogni episodio. Il testo di ciascun podcast è disponibile direttamente (ed apparirà anche sul vostro iPod), così come talvolta sono presenti note di lessico o grammatica ed esercizi con chiavi.
All’interno di ciascun articolo si possono trovare collegamenti per alcuni dei temi menzionati (generalmente grazie a wikipedia) , oppure a storie pubblicate su giornali o altri media.
Le opzioni di ricerca nell’archivio potrebbero essere migliorate, dato che c’è solo un collegamento a “Come trovare cose in questo sito“; c’è però la possibilità di cercare una parola direttamente sull’ on-line Cambridge Dictionary.
Grazie a FeedBurner è pra possibile accedere o abbonarsi al primo volume di Greatest Hits del 2006, che presenta i 21 episodi maggiormente scaricati.
An interesting blog with podcasts that will help you to improve your English vocabulary and pronunciation and your listening skills. There are three short (2 or 3 minutes) podcasts every week, in clearly spoken English. You can download them to your computer, or subscribe using a programme such as iTunes or Yahoo, or simply listen to them by clicking the Flash player on the web page beneath each episode. The full text of each podcast is on this site (and will also appear on your iPod screen), as well as, at times, related grammar or vocabulary notes and exercises with linked keys.
Within the articles or right at the end, you can find links for some of the topics mentioned (usually linking to wikipedia) or to related stories from newspapers or other media.

Una breve trasmissione radio scaricabile o ascoltabile on-line, di cui è disponibile anche la trascrizione, propone ogni settimana qualche verso di una canzone famosa di cui esamina una particolarità lessicale o grammaticale. Altri esempi d’uso, notizie su cantante o gruppo nonché link a siti correlati completano il servizio.
A new service from BBC Learning English: how to learn vocabulary and structures through songs. A short radio can programme that be listened to on-line or downloaded, of which a transcript is available, proposes a few lines from famous songs, examining an item of grammar or vocabulary. Other examples, news on the singer or band as well as links to related websites complete the service.

Crosswords è un cruciverba basato ogni settimana su un tema diverso e per risolvere il quale può essere necessario leggere articoli di varia natura qui collegati.
Sotto Exam Skills troverete consigli da insegnanti, esaminatori e studenti sugli esami più importanti e su come passarli, ascoltando brevi trasmissioni radio, scaricandone le trascrizioni, e testando la vostra comprensione con quiz appositi.
Wordmaster è un altro quiz interattivo dove vi verrà chiesto di indovinare parole di cui viene data la definizione, giocando contro il tempo.
Whereontonext è un gioco interattivo che vi porterà a visitare 6 località nelle Isole britanniche; il vostro tour prevede che ascoltiate i brevi report e rispondiate alle domande per ciascuna località così da poter continuare verso quella seguente.
Gli amanti del calcio apprezzeranno Commentary Box, dove i quiz si basano su brevi commenti calcistici che possono essere ascoltati o letti.

Utile per mantenere “pulito” l’altro sito senza per questo togliere la possibilità ai più curiosi di capire (e magari utilizzare se strettamente necessario) un linguaggio più colorito di quello edulcorato delle tradizionali lezioni di inglese.

In questo sito, dedicato a tutti gli studenti di inglese, si possono trovare brevi lezioni e conversazioni su tutto ciò che può aiutarvi a migliorare il vostro inglese in anche solo due minuti al giorno. In ogni conversazione e in ogni “lezione da due minuti” viene posto l’accento soprattutto su idiomi, slang, phrasal verbs, senza dimenticare però altro lessico o grammatica. Pearson Brown e sua moglie Caroline sono impegnati da oltre venticinque anni nell’insegnamento dell’inglese, soprattutto commerciale, agli adulti e gestiscono una propria scuola di inglese a Lione, in Francia.
Dalla prima pagina qui indicata è possibile accedere a una serie di siti autonomi ma tutti accomunati dalla stessa grafica (e da annunci pubblicitari forniti da Google); essi consentono di esercitare non solo l’inglese commerciale, ma anche quello utile per le risorse umane, quello medico, quello per presentazioni in pubblico, la propria grammatica, le proprie abilità di ascolto, i phrasal verbs …. Accedendo ai vari siti si trova un indice da cui si accede a spiegazioni ed esercizi, soprattutto di “matching”, per i quali è necessario un lettore di Flash. Ogni sito è inoltre linkato agli altri principali ma mai ad una “home-page”.
E’ anche possibile ricevere lezioni via e-mail semplicemente lasciando il proprio indirizzo.
Un buon numero di risorse compensano in parte la difficoltà di orientamento nella navigazione.

From the first page it is possible to access a series of separate websites, all similar in graphics and in the use of Google ads. They all allow users to exercise their English, not only for business but also for medicine, for presentations, for human resources, as well as their grammar, listening skills and phrasal verbs….
In each website you can find a neat index for explanations and exercises, mostly matching ones, for which it is necessary to have a Flash reader. Each site is also linked to the other main ones but never to a “home-page”.
It is also possible to receive lessons by e-mail.
A good number of resources partly compensates the difficulty in navigation.

Questo sito è per persone che studiano l’inglese come seconda lingua o come lingua straniera. Vi si trovano quiz, giochi, proverbi, anagrammi, un generatore di frasi nonché altre attività di apprendimento con l’uso del computer. Per permettere lo scaricamento il più veloce possibile delle pagine vengono usate immagini solo laddove sia davvero necessario; bisogna tuttavia avere Flash e Java per poter visualizzare buona parte delle attività.
Alcuni degli esercizi di lessico e grammatica sono condivisi con A4esl.
Tra le sezioni più interessanti vi sono quella di podcast, con programmi da VOA e attività per ascoltare ed imparare barzellette, canzoni ed altro, quella di Audio Concentration, quella intitolata Crazy Sentence Singer , e infine quella di Scrittura Assistita , dove, semplicemente rispondendo ad alcune domande, si possono generare una varietà di semplici frasi in prima o terza persona.

La sezione di Inglese speciale di Voice of America è un utile strumento per migliorare il proprio inglese americano. I programmi in “inglese speciale” sono trasmessi giornalmente sul network di VOA. Ogni trasmissione comincia con le notizie dal mondo, seguite da un programma tematico di circa 15 minuti.
Nel sito si possono trovare le trascrizioni e i file audio (in formato Real Audio e MP3) dei suddetti programmi tematici, in modo da poter leggere ed ascoltare allo stesso tempo, imparando nuovo lessico e acquisendo informazioni su una varietà di temi, dall’attualità alla storia americana.
L’inglese speciale ha un lessico composto da circa 1500 parole, usa frasi semplici, la forma attiva e nessuna espressione idiomatica. I lettori parlano ad una velocità di circa due terzi rispetto all’inglese standard.
Benché questo metodo sia utile per imparare e rafforzare il lessico e la sua pronuncia americana, lo è meno per chi ha necessità di capire ed imparare un inglese un po’ più complesso o idiomatico oppure di seguire un parlato più veloce e naturale.
Interessante la sezione di “English Learning” (in fondo al menu di sinistra) da cui è possibile reperire brevi trasmissioni sulla storia di alcune parole od espressioni, altre che (lette a velocità normale) esplorano alcune questioni linguistiche (“Wordmaster”), esercizi e giochi sul lessico nonché link ad altre risorse per l’apprendimento dell’inglese.
The Special English section of Voice of America is a tool to practice and improve American English. VOA Special English radio programmes are broadcast every day of the year on the VOA network. Each broadcast starts with world news, followed by a short feature report and a 15 minute feature.
Throughout this site you will find radio scripts from these feature programmes and the matching RealAudio and MP3 file of the text as it was delivered on the radio, enabling you to read along and listen to the audio report, thus learning new vocabulary and information about a variety of subjects, from issues in the news to American history.
Special English has a core vocabulary of 1500 words, it uses short, simple sentences that contain only one idea, active voice and do not use idioms. Special English broadcasters read at a slower pace, about two-thirds the speed of standard English.
Although this method is useful to learn new vocabulary and its American pronunciation, it may be less so for those who need to learn more complex or idiomatic language as well as to follow programmes and conversations at a normal pace.
