Un podcast giornaliero di pochi minuti con pronuncia, definizione e descrizione dell’uso di due parole oltre ad un “recap” settimanale: questo è quello che, per ora, questo sito offre (anche se dai link in testata sembrerebbero esserci programmi più ambiziosi in futuro). La parte scritta di ogni post contiene le definizioni di ciascuna parola.
Molto utile per studenti d’inglese di livello avanzato e per madrelingua che vogliono ampliare il loro lessico.

Un sito tutto dedicato allo “speaking”. Imparare a parlare come abilità autonoma, non migliorabile attraverso ascolto o lettura, è fondamentale secondo gli sviluppatori, che pensano che ascoltando e ripetendo un gran numero di frasi possa aiutare in questo senso.
Le lezioni, divise per categorie (Regular English, Business English, Travel English etc.) e per sotto-categorie, contengono generalmente una spiegazione intercalata da frasi da ascoltare e ripetere a piacimento. Alcune lezioni sono “interattive”: lo studente può ascoltare un intero dialogo e poi recitare una delle due parti. Un forum dove poter chiedere aiuto o dialogare con altri studenti completa l’offerta.
Che il metodo sia garanzia di successo non è davvero provato, ma certamente il sito offre un utile servizio di buona qualità.
A website dedicated to “speaking”, Learning to speak as an autonomous skill, not improvable though listening or reading, is fundamental for the site’s developers, who reckon that listening and repeating a large numer of sentences can help.
Lessons, divided into categories (Regular English, Business English, Travel English etc.) and sub-categories, generally contain an explanation and several example sentences to listen to and repeat at leisure. Some lessons are interactive: you can listen to a whole dialogue and then play one of the two parts. A forum where you can ask for help or chat with other students is also available.
It’s not really proven that the method is successful in making you a good speaker but the website offers a good quality, useful service.

Le Podcards non sono altro che cartoline sonore che si possono sia scaricare che ascoltare on-line. Contengono informazioni su particolari città o luoghi, oppure su personaggi storici, invenzioni, film o eventi che hanno reso quel luogo famoso. Ciascuna cartolina è corredata da un testo contenente du eesercizi (uno di lessico e uno di comprensione) e la trascrizione dell’audio. Il sito fornisce anche una lista di link e una lista di verbi irregolari che si possono anche ascoltare.
La qualità dell’audio non è sempre perfetta né lo è l’accento della lettrice donna (evidentemente non madrelingua) ma l’idea è buona ed è abbastanza semplice per poter essere sfruttata con profitto.
PodCards are audio postcards that you can download or listen to on-line. They contain information about a particular town or city from different countries around the world or biographies of famous people, inventions, films or events that make these places famous. Each podcards comes with a text containing two exercises (a vocabulary one and a comprehension one) and a transcript. The site is also provided with a list of irregular verbs that can be listened to and a list of useful links.
The audio recording is not always perfect nor is the accent of the female reader (obviously not a native speaker) but the idea is good and simple enough to be profitably exploited.

Un interessantissimo sito per gli amanti degli accenti e della storia della lingua. Un intero sito, gestito dalla BBC, è dedicato alle voci che si possono trovare in giro per il Regno Unito, non solo accenti inglesi ma anche lingue minoritarie, come il gallese o il gaelico scozzese, o di immigrazione, come il punjabi o il turco.
C’è la possibilità di ascoltare spezzoni di conversazioni partendo da una mappa, di imparare di più su cosa porta una lingua a cambiare o cosa distingue un accento da un altro, oppure si può partecipare a o fruire de i risultati di una mappatura dell’uso di parole ed espressioni, oppure ancora mettere alla prova il proprio orecchio per accenti e lingue nel Laboratorio Linguistico.

A really interesting site for those who love accents and the history of language. A whole website, managed by the BBC, is dedicated tp the voices that can be found around the UK, not only English accents but also minority languages, such as Welsh or Scottish Gaelic, o from immigrants, such as Turkish and Punjabi.
You have the possibilities of listening to chunks of conversations starting from a UK map, to learn more about what makes accents different or a language evolve, or you can participate in or enjoy the results of a mapping of words and expressions, or yet again you can test your ear for accents or languages in the Language Lab.
The whole site is completed by links to other BBC or external web pages on related topics. Pure BBC style!
